Calvary Pentecostal Church was founded by Elder John Merriweather in 1977. Two years later he asked Elder Willie Clemons, (which was assistant pastor at Jerusalem Temple Church in Philadelphia, MS) to become the pastor. After seeking God and with his pastor’s blessings, Elder Clemons went forth. The Church name would then become what it is today "Greater Faith Calvary Pentecostal Church".

When Elder Clemons became the pastor of the original church, he completed one major remodeling and several additions to the church building. The church building was located next to the “Crisco Ditch". Out of all the flooding that took place in this location, the church experienced only one incident of minor flood damage. This damage was corrected with a water hose because only mud got into the church and there was no carpet. This was important because the houses all around the church were constantly flooded seemingly every time a significant amount of rain came down.

Elder Clemons had to go before the city of Canton on several occasions to help upgrade the church. At the time when Elder Clemons wanted to add a dining hall to the church, the city council refused to grant a building permit. Elder Clemons boldly told them in his short talk, “I’m working with you to help the policemen of this city keep crime down and I need this permit approved so we can have more”. Within days, the permit that was denied was then approved.

On December 25, 2004, District Elder Clemons and Evangelist Agatha Clemons led the Greater Faith Calvary Church Family into its new and present home located at 305 N. Railroad Ave Canton, MS. It was a beautiful sight to see the excited group of believers bundled up walking and singing while marching from the old church to the new one.

Greater Faith Calvary is still an active member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW). Prayer is the vital part of our Assembly. Prayer meetings are held daily from 5:00 am – 6:30 am Sunday thru Saturday; Noonday Prayer is open Monday thru Friday to all and a special prayer service on Monday nights is a grand time to talk with God.
